Hebridean Faces

Paul Strand dedicated his touching B/W photo series "Tir A'Muhrain" (land of bent grass) to the people of the Hebrides.

We traveled the Inner and Outer Hebrides in the 1980's for several weeks on foot and bicycles and had to withstand rain, fog, wind and boggy terrains.

What we received was plentiful: People living in modesty with smiling faces, friendships and landscapes that are scattered with houses and sheep flocks as Paul had seen them in the 1950's. But the horses were gone being replaced by cars ... .
